Autism Assessments for Adults.

At Staffordshire Autism Service (SAS), we provide a structured, evidence-based pathway for adults seeking clarity and understanding around their experiences. Our process follows National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance combining recommended tools with professional clinical judgement to ensure that assessments are comprehensive, consistent, and person-centred.

We begin with a Screening Assessment, designed to identify whether a full diagnostic assessment is likely to be appropriate and helpful for you. For those continuing, we offer an Autism Diagnostic Assessment that provides a clear, detailed understanding of your strengths, differences, and needs.

Screening Assessment – £175.

The screening assessment is the first step in your journey with us. It provides an opportunity to explore whether proceeding to a full diagnostic assessment is likely to be appropriate and helpful.

This stage includes:

• Completion of a standardised, evidence-based screening tool.

• A focused online or in-person discussion with one of our Clinical Psychologists to explore your history and current experiences.

Following the assessment you will receive:

• Clear verbal feedback and a brief written summary indicating whether a full autism assessment is recommended.

• Information about what to expect if you choose to continue.

Our Commitment.

All assessments are undertaken by HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologists experienced in adult autism assessment and guided by NICE best practice.

We combine clinical rigour with empathy and compassion, ensuring the process is transparent, supportive, and grounded in respect for each individual.

You do not need a referral - please contact us directly to arrange a screening assessment.

Autism Diagnostic Assessment – £1500.

For individuals where the screening suggests further assessment is appropriate, the diagnostic assessment offers a comprehensive evaluation of whether your experiences are consistent with autism.

This stage includes:

• Completion of a standardised, evidence-based self-report tool.

• In person or online clinical assessment.

• A formal diagnostic interview, ideally with an informant who has known you since childhood, exploring early experiences and current presentation.

• Review of additional information (e.g., school/medical reports).

Following the assessment you will receive:

• In person or online feedback to discuss the findings and recommendations in clear, accessible language.

• A comprehensive written report that summarises the assessment process, diagnostic opinion, and next-step suggestions.

Our aim is for every client to leave the process with greater understanding, validation, and a clear sense of what support may be most helpful.
